Flexible media and gameplay upgrades for more fun

Our interactive media dark ride Champi'Folies opened last season in Le PAL with great success. However as a ride company we are never done and there can never be enough fun. So hereby another behind the scenes on how we keep learning and improving, how we put and keep the dots on the i ! This is only possible due to the flexibility of the ride concept and media dynamics, which can be upgraded and optimised in a simple way. ​ So when the ride opened we listened carefully to the feedback of the park operators, influencers/bloggers and visitors to further optimise the experience.

Fun times with fungi upgrades

Interactive rides are putting the players at the center of the attraction and we want to make sure that the ride fits perfectly their expectations, habits and culture: this is why we prize flexibility so high. At the design phase we already anticipated that the digital reload scene would need to be fine tuned. So we created a “softer" moment for the zealous players who would end up tired at the end of the game by frantically shooting at the Mushies throughout the ride. ​ We applied some small but important upgrades and introduced a different gameplay until we found the perfect balance between the different scenes. This process went smoothly as media upgrades were done overnight so the ride was not interrupted. ​

We boosted the gameplay with exciting new challenges by adding golden mushrooms across the scenes. They are well hidden and can bring 5,000 extra bonus points if they get frozen by the players. Also the picture reproduction in the Hall of Fame was upgraded with higher quality renderings and adjusted layout. In order to convey the story of the TooMush more effectively to younger children, the pre-show video has been enhanced to present an engaging narrative that incorporates safety guidelines in an playful manner.

Finally, to enhance throughput, we optimized the scene durations and in collaboration with park operators, we finetuned the queue line flow. As a result, the ride now boasts an impressive capacity of 432 persons per hour.

Firsthand visitor experiences

An easy and non-violent gameplay, Champi'Folies can be enjoyed by visitors of different age groups. Grandparents and grandchildren playing together, competitive players searching for hidden clues to get the highest scoring… We made the ride totally inclusive, with fun for all skill levels.

After the VIP Press Opening in May with trade journalists, influencers, and bloggers from global fan sites, there was widespread media coverage of the Champi'Folies attraction and the park. We monitored all podcasts and articles on the ride, and are grateful with such engaged and influential ambassadorship. Besides some minor improvements, some of which have already been implemented, the overall feedback was very positive throughout.

Customisable Smash & Reload

Champi'Folies is based on BoldMove's Smash & Reload media dark ride platform with ride system and interactivity of Triotech, and media & gameplay by Polymorph. While the Smash & Reload dark ride was designed as a product, we made sure it is customisable to each specific park environment. The media contains many elements that can be dynamically adjusted to individual occasions like an event or seasonal park activities. The ride experience can be extended with pre and post-show, themed shop with merchandising, playground and F&B.
